5 accommodation options with Panda certification

5 accommodation options located in Scarpe-Escaut are certified as ‘Panda Gîtes’ by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), a distinction awarded to French holiday homes and bed and breakfasts based in a Regional Nature Park and committed to protecting nature.

Until 2010, only one holiday home in Scarpe-Escaut, the group accommodation centre Le Luron located in the national forest of Saint-Amand-Les-Eaux, was able to pride itself on having the Panda Gîte label created in 1993 by Gîtes de France, WWF and the Regional Nature Parks. Since then, 4 more holiday homes (more precisely, three holiday homes and one guest house / restaurant establishment) have received this certification. Their owners have not only built or restored their accommodation with the protection of nature in mind (eco-construction, eco-materials), but they also educate those who come to stay there about their environment.

 chambre dhôte "entre deux nos"

Guesthouse and restaurant “Entre deux Nos” (Between two Nos)

This establishment takes its unusual name from its location at the junction of two districts, No à Houx (wetland pasture for geese) and No Avez (wetland pasture for veal) - right in the middle, then, of a wetlands area rich in biodiversity and remarkable species.

Brigitte and Guy Mieyeville have restored an old farm building from the early 19th century using local materials (stone and wood), environmentally friendly paint and insulating materials, low-energy lighting, etc. The menus offered are all made with local produce (if not from their own orchard or vegetable garden). They have capacity for 8 people (3 bedrooms).

Two holiday homes in Grand Marais

In the locality of ‘Grand Marais’, deep within a Natura 2000 area and just 50 metres from two ponds with facilities for fishing and walking, Hélène and Thomas Devillers have restored the barn of an old farm dating back to 1789 into two holiday homes for 4-6 people, accessible to all, including people with reduced mobility and visual, hearing or mental impairments. Compliant with the Nord General Council policy on sustainable tourist accommodation, they received support to apply high environmental standards (certified wood, solar panels, rain water recovery, waste sorting, etc.). Their ambition is to demonstrate to their guests that it is still possible in the 21st century to live in harmony with the environment just by making a few small gestures.

Le Gîte rural de Millonfosse

Daniel Hennion, a highly committed nature activist and eco-citizen, has opened a holiday home for four people right next to the Scarpe. The building is, of course, eco-designed. Of particular merit is the educational element provided in the form of a superbly produced welcome booklet and presentations focussing on natural gardening.

The Group Accommodation Centre in Luron

Next to the Park Centre (offices of the joint association), in the national forest of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, this accommodation centre has a 24-bed capacity, and is suitable for school, leisure centre and club groups.
