The chapels of Coutiches: a 16 km interpretive path
The "chapels of Coutiches" interpretive path is a marked-out route which can be completed on foot (4 hrs 30 mins) or by bike, allowing you to discover the religious heritage of Coutiches, one of the communes in the Regional National Park.
In Scarpe-Escaut, many of the classified communes have a significant heritage. In Coutiches, one such commune in the Douaisis near Orchies, the religious heritage is rich and diverse: four chapels, a ‘calvary’ or wayside cross unique to the region, and a classical-style church with a 40 metre spire.
This circuit, which departs from the calvary (the only one of its kind in the region in terms of its size and its twin function as a chapel and calvary) will give you a chance to discover the local religious heritage while also encountering enclosed farmyards, ancient hedgerows and pollard willows.
