Remarkable trees: a path containing some superb examples
The interpretive trail "Walks in the shadow of remarkable trees" runs through part of Scarpe-Escaut Regional Nature Park and crosses the border to reach Plaines de l’Escaut Nature Park, in Belgium
Around fifteen years ago, a number of Regional Nature Park residents took part in a major survey on exceptional trees, concerning their size, age, form and connection to local history, after which several examples were designated as ‘remarkable trees’.
This long route will introduce you to 17 remarkable trees in a number of the communes which form part of Scarpe-Escaut Regional Nature Park, including Vieux-Condé, Château l'Abbaye, Flines-lez-Mortagne, Bellaing, Beuvrages, Rosult, Warlaing, Rieulay and Pecquencourt, with a detour through a few Belgian communes in Plaines de l’Escaut Nature Park (Hollain, Antoing, Péruwelz, Beloeil, Bernissart).
A guide (which can be downloaded from this website) brings you potted histories and anecdotes about each tree.
